ARTIST STATEMENT Carla Henry Carla Layreen Henry (1946 - ) resides in the Los Angeles suburbs. She paints plein air in the Southern California area. Indoors she paints floral, abstracts, and collage. She works in acrylic, oil, and watercolor. She is a member of the Malibu Art Association and Allied Artists of Santa Monica Mountains. Her art and photographs are on display in exhibits and juried shows throughout the Los Angeles area. Landscapes and floral paintings have been purchased by corporations and individuals. Her interests are many: Published author: poetry, member of the Paradigm Poets: www.paradigmpoets.net, short stories, cookbooks: Souper Skinny Soups and Vegetarians in the Fast Lane, by Pelican Publishing, travel (Los Angeles Times) and business articles. Her love of hiking, formerly with her dogs now with her grandchildren and painting outdoors, has reinforced her efforts to protect our open space and wildlife. She is a Board Member of the Santa Susana Mountains Park Association. She believes the natural environment of Southern California needs to be preserved for future generations and artists. To keep creative energy flowing she participates in workshops, various classes, and is an art magazine junkie. The beauty of the Southern California mountain, coastal, and desert areas seem too amazingly beautiful to be real. Painting this region, refraining from too much detail, is a challenge. She is working on a series of new landscapes she refers to as Illusionary Realism. Her work can also be seen on ParadigmPoets.net and MalibuArt.org.
