Paint-outs are great ways to meet other artists and discover new sites for inspiration.

The board chose new sites, interesting historic parks and old favorites for each year's schedule. Unless otherwise noted, we meet on the second Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m. (new time) and paint until about 1:30 p.m.  Bring your own art supplies, water, lunch, sunscreen and repellent, hat and walking shoes.  We will meet near the restrooms off the parking area, except when indicated.  If crowded, I’ll carry a red flag.

For more information, call

Carole Garland 310-383-1374 or carolegarland@sbcglobal.net or

Annie Hoffman, 310-339-8396 or annieart3@sbcglobal.net.

2010

AUGUST 14 – MALIBU LAGOON STATE BEACH, Malibu

How to get the best angle on a lagoon filled with waterfowl or bridges over marsh plants or the surfer beach scene is our artistic quest at this favorite park not far from the Malibu Pier.  Take PCH to Cross Creek Rd (0.25 mile west of Malibu Pier).  Parking lot is on ocean side of PCH.  Fee.  Facilities.   POTLUCK.  Bring food to share and enjoy the fellowship.

SEPTEMBER 11 – SANTA MONICA PIER, SANTA MONICA – DUSK

Because we enjoyed the Pier this past year and thought it would be great to paint at dusk, we’re returning for a nite at the pier, meeting at 4:00 p.m. until dark.  The carnival atmosphere and a twinkling Coastline will inspire all but the fainthearted.   We will meet at the merry-go-round.  Look for the red flag.  Fee parking on pier or street.  Facilities.

OCTOBER 16 – POINT MUGU STATE PARK

Note:  this paint out date has been changed from October 9th to October 16th.

This is a new location for us and is wide open for exploration, from beaches to campgrounds, not to mention the Big Rock.  Traveling PCH, the park is 4 miles west of the Ventura County Line.  Enter park at Sycamore Canyon Campground.  We will meet there.  Look for the red flag.  Facilities.  Fees.

NOVEMBER 13 – PETER STRAUSS RANCH, 3000 Mulholland, Agoura

Our annual autumnal pilgrimage here is in search of one of the Santa Monicas special fall treats: theturning sycamore leaves in naples yellow and a fall foliage display in cad red and orange, burnt sienna and  more.  From the parking lot or the drywash creek are views of Paramount Peak and distant mountains. Take Kanan Road from either the Ventura 10 Freeway or PCH.  Turn east on Troutdale Rd.  At the Mulholland Intersection,  turn left and look for parking on your right.  Facilities at ranchhouse.

DECEMBER 11 – SOKA/KING GILLETTE RANCH

Now a public park, this historic property was once a ranch, housed a religious sect and a college campus. A stately eucalptus-lined park entrance, mountains vistas, oak groves, a Mediterranean estate and pond provide unlimited painting opportunities for both beginning and seasoned artists (salt and pepper hair).  Park entrance is on Mulholland, 0.1 mile south of the intersection of Malibu Canyon/Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland.  Meet at first parking lot on right.  Fee. Facilities.
